Position:  Business and Renter Organizer

Classification:  Part time- 20-30 hrs. per week

Responsible to: Interim Executive Director

Organization Description/Mission:  The Greater East Side/District 2 Community Council serves as the planning organization for the NE neighborhoods of St Paul. The mission is of the organization is: The Greater East Side Community Council engages the community to create a vibrant and thriving neighborhood for all.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

The Business and Renter Organizer assists the Executive Director in community engagement efforts related to event and program coordination, communications, business outreach and support, staffing board committees and other areas assigned.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: This position will be focus on business and renter engagement.

Outreach & Engagement (50%)

Build relationships and promote neighborhood activities to residents focusing especially on those living in multi-family housing and rental housing.

Create community events and programs to meet identified resident needs

Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders

Attend meetings and events on behalf of the organization

Research housing and tenant issues and serve as resource for the community and for the board

Business Support (50%)

Provide staff support to the White Bear Avenue Business Association (WBABA)

Work with staff and WBABA Board to distribute survey and record results on the business climate in the neighborhood and resources needed

Build WBABA membership

Coordinate and work with staff  and volunteers to produce the White Bear Avenue Parade (cancelled in 2021)

Create new events and programs on behalf of WBABA

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Community Organizing or experience building relationships in diverse communities.
  • Conflict resolution skills and creative problem solving abilities
  • Dedication to promoting equity, inclusivity and diversity
  • Computer skills including word processing and data management as well as experience with social media
  • Physical ability to walk, lift, bend and carry up to 40 pounds.

The ideal applicant will have strong written and verbal skills in English and preferably another language (preferably Spanish or Hmong), be a self-starter, organized and have strong relational skills and experience at community outreach. Because of the pandemic, this position may be work from home out of an abundance of caution.

Salary & Benefits

This is a part time position 20-30 hours per week at a rate of $17 per hour, vacation, sick and holiday leave.
